Kerry Conner is our Business Manager here at Beverley Housing Charity.
Having worked in finance roles since 2005, she accumulated a wealth of experience, including working for Ingrams’ Solicitors in the conveyancing department, Beal Homes with the Sales and Marketing Director, Goodwin Development Trust and Active Humber as Head of Business Support.
Kerry further grew her expertise by studying Business Management - a five-year part-time degree, attending lectures and learning in the evenings whilst working full time.
Goodwin Development Trust was her first experience of working in the voluntary sector. Within six months she moved over to Humber Sports Partnership which had been located at Goodwin.
The Humber Sports Partnership were primarily funded through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport via Sport England. The charity supported and encouraged people to become active right across the Humber Region and in 2014, rebranded to be known as Active Humber, moving away from Goodwin, as it had become well-established as a stand-alone charity.
Kerry remained at Active Humber for 17 years in her role as Head of Business Support. She explains: “I oversaw the charity’s governance, finance, marketing and comms and business support. While at Active Humber, I studied accountancy and completed my AAT levels 1, 2 and 3. Again, whilst working full-time, I returned to learning on a night at East Riding College in Beverley.
I love working in the voluntary sector and seeing the direct impact of what we do. The job came up at Beverley Housing Charity at just the right time. I enjoyed working at Active Humber, but after 17 years, I felt I had achieved my full potential within the role. This role provides the challenge I had been craving. Our new CEO, Andy Barber, described the charity as a sleeping giant. His ideas and input have already made a significant impact and the whole team is excited about the future. At BHC, we are looking at next 200 years. The charity has a long history and a robust platform. I am leading on the finances and governance as we implement a modernisation programme to make us fit for purpose and to protect our future, ensuring BHC can support residents for future generations.
Kerry lives outside Withernsea with her husband, Graham and eight-year-old daughter, Lottie. “Graham is a farmer, so the summer months involve listening to him moan about the unpredictable UK weather.”
On the farm, the family loves the outdoors and spends a lot of time with their little grey pony, Jasper. Kerry says: “I did 21,246 steps last night after work whilst Lottie was out hacking! It’s good for all of us.”
